Our extension office moved into the old train depot building in the historic district of Covington. Any landscaping had to be approved by the city. In addition to filling the beds in the front of the building, three raised beds have been added. One raised bed will contain native plants, one bed will be maintained by the Master Gardener Interns, and the other bed currently holds herbs. A small vegetable garden is planned in the back of the building.
Our initial goal was to have plants in before the open house.
We chose bushes and plants that would sustain the heat that would hit the front side of the building.
We planted Abelias and Petite Roses, along with a couple of holly bushes.
The roses are doing quite well!
We have three raised beds. This is the herb bed.
The native plant raised bed.
Tomato plants are in the third raised bed.
The 2023 Interns created a rain barrel watering system to help water the beds.
